CWIC 2016
Quilmont was lucky enough to have one of their own team members present at CWIC 2016, Carolina Women In Computing, a program hosted by ACM-W, a conference held in the Carolinas bi-annually, with the goal of showcasing and encouraging women in technology. The conference was held in held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this year, and we are excited to share this experience!
Our programmer, Amanda Blair, spoke about why women are so scarce in IT, why they leave for other industries, and about ways that we can work toward attaining and retaining women in IT. She also shared her experiences from school, including CodeIT academy and here membership in the AITP (Association of IT Professionals). Over all, there was a huge response from the audience about the topic, and the conversation continued after the presentation was over.
The most raised question in the room was: Do you know of any solutions that have been implemented in the workplace that truly improved the IT work environment for women, and their male co-workers? Are there programs that you have encountered that have made a workplace truly non-gender-discriminate?
If you have an answer to this, please feel free to comment below! We would love to hear from you!
